Establishing the optimum method to process a multi-phase feed of heavy crude into light hydrocarbon vapours and a liquid feed for processing into gasoline, diesel and jet fuel
SAS applied its in-depth knowledge of complex, multi-phase CFD analysis work to this challenge and explored a number of different options in the virtual world to establish an optimum flash separator design.
During this CFD analysis phase, several possible design geometries and operating conditions were examined using non-steady, multi-phase flow CFD to optimise the system design.
Also included in this analysis, was the development and application of a unique coke formation model that was used to minimise the potential for coke formation inside the separation vessel.
As a result of SAS’s detailed CFD work, Saudi Aramco is currently testing the design recommended by SAS.
